Timex Ironman One GPS+ Smartwatch: Smartphone Not Required

Timex, the company that created the famous “takes a licking” slogan, has now created a 3G connected smartwatch that does not require a smartphone.

This is the Ironman One GPS+, and it is designed to upload fitness data from the your current location. As you might have guessed, the Ironman One is made for the sports-lover or active lifestyle user. If you want, you can share performance metrics on your social media instantly. Not only that, the Ironman One is certainly very rugged, and it is water resistant for about 150 feet.

Other features include a built-in messaging application so friends can contact you via special email address. There is also an SOS button so you can alert family and friends to your location.

The Ironman One has about 4GB of memory. That is good for music, but it must be heard with a Bluetooth headset. This is good for listening while running or jogging or doing other exercise.

As for the display, it has a 1.5 inch Mirasol display. The phone can last three days on a single battery charge without GPS, but only 8 hours with the location tracking on.

As for the 3G service, Timex has made a partnership with AT&T and Qualcomm in order to provide the Ironman One user with one full year of free service.

There is not currently an availability or shipping date set yet, but the price will start at around £250/$399. The price will be £300/$450 if you want a heart monitor and chest strap as part of the package.
