Considering that smartwatches are being used as fitness bands for the land and water, it is interesting to see a smartwatch developed specifically for swimmers.
Swimmo CEO Mateusz Heleniak has stated that the device is outfitted with “a number of proprietary technologies such as Rotate&Tap gesture control, a waterproof heart rate sensor, IntensityCoach and PaceKeeper”. The purpose of all these hook-ups is to help the user with their swimming pace with a specific training plan. As you might have guessed, it is a waterproof device and it has a full-color display that can function as a sports watch to show date and time.
In all honesty, I am not really the type of audience who would use this. It isn’t like I have a pool or find one every day so I can swim there. However, it has a personalized training applications that show real-time progress. So if you are swimming in the pool, it can track distance, pace, heart rate and calories burned. It does this by sensing vibrations, so the watch will tell you if you are doing too much or too little.
In case you are an avid swimmer and wondering where you can get the Swimmo, it is sadly not yet wildly available. It is a Kickstarter project, which means if you want to see this on every swimmer’s wrist, you will need to donate. Now, I checked and saw Swimmo has achieved its pledged of $39,000.
