As you can see by the title, the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Gear 2 got an upgrade to Tizen OS, also known as Tizen Mod 3. For those not familiar with Tizen OS, it is a custom Tizen ROM that is a custom ROM for Galaxy’s prized smartwatches.
The update is based on latest NF1 and NE5 firmwares for Samsung Gear and Gear 2. This includes a lot of cool features like support for the custom icon theme, custom fonts, ringtones, as well as alarms. It also includes features like Android L font, governor modification support, CPU frequency monitor, as well as root access.
Here is another added bonus: if the Tizen Mod 3 is installed, then its users don’t need to have a mobile device paired in order to install a new application on these smartwatches. All that is required is to put an apk file on the phone and the user must manually install it.
